Jailbreaking my Kindle

October 21, 2026 · tags:

Yesterday, I decided to again Jailbreak my Kindle.

It was long ago since my first time try jailbreaking my Kindle, really frustrating. I gave up after spending a whole day tweaking from moving the file to the device, unplug, “Update your Kindle”, but nothing works.

Recently, inspiring from a tweet that the author used CLaude Code to crack his Kindle. I immediately open my Gemini CLI to try (free student subscription - I broke I know that). Everthing was smooth until the bug that I faced last time exists, which is the “Update your Kindle” is gray, and the jailbreak script can not be activated, also the KUAL did not have permissions. So I stick with Gemini for a few times, take around more than an hour, trying many different kind of solutions. It works, I was on the moon when the KUAL menu successfully open.

My first impression was the interface is much more smooth and faster in transition, interaction, I can change the cover… .The next interesting thing is that I can connect to the large community plugins and customization. To be honest, after jailbreak, I spend more time tweaking the kindle than actually reading -)). However, I try to keep the Kindle as basic as possible otherwise it can distract me from reading, and of course that my old-fashioned can not handle much plugins

To conclusion, I dont recommend you to jailbreak your Kindle unless you fully aware of your action and consequences. Personally, it bring fresh breeze, upgrade my reading experience.
